Ezequiel, how are you?
I’m fine.
How have you and your photography been since the beginning of the crisis?
I personally felt into depression several times, but now I’m ok. Here in Buenos Aires we are enduring a strict 5-month period of lockdown, we are not allowed by law to work, neither to travel, make sports or something.
My business finished the same day the government started the lockdown, 20 March 2020, as they decided to allow to work only “essential people”, businesses or services, like supermarkets, policemen, doctors and so on.
After two weeks I decided, forced by the situation, to re-launch my web design business, something that I used to do only for specifics clients that wanted a complete rebranding of their companies, including photography, video, web design, logo, etc.
I started actively chasing clients by creating a dedicated website and applying specific digital marketing strategies.
After four months I have seven clients (two in the USA, thee in Belgium and two here in Argentina) and some leads waiting to decided to purchase my services. Currently I’m creating a website for a factory in Buenos Aires province.
It was a drastic change of business, after years of corporate photography and in less than two weeks I became a web designer and marketing strategist.
I was, fortunately, prepared to jump into this business with a significant set of skills – I’m a SquareSpace Certified Instructor since 2018 – and the fact of running a 20-year old photography career plus many years of art studies, helped a lot in the creation of the web sites.
Will the pandemic change photography?
I don’t think so. I believe that when the vaccine for COVID-19 arrives, we will all go back to normal or back to a kind of “new normal”. It can take some time, I mean months, but not years.
What does photography mean to you personally?
My profession, my career, my business. Photography is just a part of my life, I have family, kids, friends, sports occupying most of my daily life.
What is your personal photographic wish for the future?
It might be to go back to travel photography, and explore the Fine Art field by combining both, travel and art.
